A gang of unidentified assailants barged into a senior citizen’s house in northwest Delhi, bound and gagged him, slit his throat and then ransacked the premises before fleeing in the victim’s car on Thursday night.
"The incident occurred at Ramavtar Gupta’s (68) ground-floor house in Ashok Vihar. It was discovered only after his car was found at a desolate spot in outer Delhi’s Bhalaswa Dairy at 10 am by the local police the next day," said a senior Delhi Police officer.
The local police had contacted Gupta’s son Vijender Gupta when they discovered a Maruti Suzuki Swift car registered in his name in Bhalaswa Dairy area.
"Vijender Gupta told us that though the car was registered in his name, his father used it. We then rushed to Ramavtar Gupta’s house to find him dead with his throat slit and limbs bound with a plastic rope,” the officer said.
Police said Gupta owned a tyre business in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area.
His sons live in the adjacent Punjabi Bagh area.
In another incident, a gang of unidentified burglars broke into a businessman’s C-block residence in Bharat Nagar in northwest Delhi in broad daylight and decamped with cash and jewellery worth at more than R20 lakh on Thursday afternoon, police said.
