The admission season at St Stephen's College is going to be much easier for the parents of the aspirants. The college will open the doors of its hostel and accommodate parents who have come to Delhi for the admission session.
This is for the first time that a college in Delhi University will make place for parents of aspirants in its hostel.
"Parents come from different parts of the country to get their children admitted in the college. If the parents stay here, it will be much more convenient for them," said KM Matthew, tutor for admissions, St Stephen's College.
Initially, only 40 rooms of the hostel will be made available for the parents. The college is planning to charge a nominal amount for accommodation, which will be decided in a few days and posted online.
The admission process in St Stephen's began on Wednesday with the sale of forms. So far more than 9,000 students have already applied for admission in the 10 courses that the college offers, a record.
The accommodation is expected to be ready by the second week of June. The hostel was refurbished in October last year in time for CWG.
"The hostel will be occupied by students till the first week of June as their exams are still going on. By the time the list for interviews is put up, parents will be able to move in," said Matthew.
Parents, who are interested in staying on campus during their wards' interviews, can send mails to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Parents, meanwhile, expressed their happiness at the suggestion. "It is such a beautiful campus. If my daughter makes through to the interview round, I will be delighted to stay here," said Revathi Shankar, who lives in Mumbai.
