The 21-year-old woman, who was repeatedly stabbed on her face while resisting a molestation bid in a Blueline bus two days ago. has gone into hiding.
Traumatised after the incident, the woman gave fake addresses to the police and the hospital where she was treated, police said.
“The woman was so shocked that she was not even ready to lodge a complaint. A man had attacked her on her forehead with a sharp object. The bus was crowded but no one came for help,” said S.S. Yadav, DCP (northeast).
Initial reports suggested she was attacked by four men.
The DCP clarified that the woman’s face was not disfigured and that she was discharged from the hospital.
The police a registered a case under Sections 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 323 (hurt) at the Seelampur Police Station.
“We are grilling several suspects. Before the woman was attacked, she had a heated argument with the accused. When she protested, he attacked her,” he said.
The police said they were trying to contact the victim but her mobile phone was switched off.
“She had furnished two addresses —that of her office and her residence. When our team visited these addresses, they were found to be fake,” the DCP said.
“Even the address given at the hospital was not genuine.”
