The Delhi government on Friday launched an electronic-stamping facility to completely do away with stamp paper of all denominations.
At present, e-stamping is applicable to values of R501 and above but the government has decided to abolish stamp papers of all denominations. People will now have to pay stamp duty for affidavits, agreement of tenancy, mortgage deeds, general power of attorney and other instruments through the facility.
The move will also keep a check on fraudulent practices. “We have entered into an agreement with Stock Holding Corporation of India for the service,” said Vijay Dev, principal secretary, revenue. However, both electronic and manual system will continue to function till July 31.
