More than 24 hours after interviews for Chemistry and Economics honours got over at St Stephen’s, the college is yet to put up the list of qualifying candidates.
According to teachers this is against the tradition of the college, where the final list is put up the day after interviews for a particular subject close.
“It’s been more than 24 hours since the Chemistry and Economics interviews have ended but the lists have not been put up yet,” said a teacher on condition of anonymity. “The list is with the pro tem administrator (MS Frank) and will only be released after his approval,” the teacher said.
Frank could not be reached for comments despite repeated attempts.
The list, according to sources, is being carefully scrutinized to ensure that the admission policy has been followed. “If the lists have not been put up then they are probably being checked carefully. The admission policy was changed this time and is very complicated,” said a teacher.
“For instance, if we didn’t get enough Christian candidates we had to take non-Christian SC/ST/handicapped candidates. So the number crunching is happening,” the teacher said.
According to members of the college admissions committee, the list of candidates chosen after the interview will now be sent to the Supreme Council for vetting. “After the list has been approved by the Supreme Council it will be released,” a member said.
Others, however, countered it. “The Supreme Council has no right to vet the list of candidates and neither has the Bishop,” said a teacher. Spokesman Sunil Matthew refused to comment.
