Delhi will be a much brighter place during the Games.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has installed streetlights, smaller than the usual ones, to ensure the footpaths that have been streetscaped by the civic agency are well lit-up.
The roads where the streetlights have been installed include Park Street, Mother Teresa Crescent, Old RK Ashram Marg, Udyan Marg, SP Marg and Subramaniam Bharti Marg.
The NDMC says the streetlights give a contemporary look that blends well with the streetscaped roads.
“These streetlights will ensure that people walking on these stretches have a well lit-up area. They serve the purpose of a pedestrian light,” said a senior NDMC official. While work on most of the stretches has been completed, the remaining will be completed soon.
Apart from these fancy streetlights, the civic body has also replaced streetlights on 81 roads with new, energy-efficient lights at a cost of Rs 41 crore.
These streetlights will help save 1.43 mega watt of power every year and will help save Rs 2.8 crore annually too.
