A 26-year-old management student was found dead at a hotel in central Delhi's Paharganj area on Saturday morning, police said.
"The deceased, who has been identified as Vipul Choudhary from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh (UP), was found dead on his bed at the Gold Inn Hotel in the morning today," said a senior police officer.
According to police, Choudhary was pursuing his MBS from a private management institute in south Delhi's Saket and had checked into the hotel on March 17.
"As per the hotel's management, Choudhary was supposed to check out in the morning on Saturday. When he didn't report to the front desk an hour after checkout time, an attendant was sent to his room to check on him," the officer said.
Police said the attendant informed the hotel management which in turn brought the incident to their notice after repeated attempts to elicit a response from Choudhary failed.
"The hotel staff kept knocking on the door but there was no response. The door was broken down after local police reached the spot and the deceased was seen lying on the bed and foaming from the mouth," said the officer.
Police said Choudhary was rushed to the adjacent Lady Hardinge hospital where his post mortem examination will be conducted on Monday.
"Prima facie, it appears that the victim died due to poisoning. But we are waiting for the autopsy report. No suicide note was recovered from his person. His family in UP has been contacted and further investigations are underway," the officer added.
