It was a unique auction which saw finance classes, mountain-climbing lessons, class notes and French tutorials going under the hammer but for a social cause.

The silent auction was being organised by the students of Delhi University's Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) for the last four years and this time around the response was "very encouraging".

The auction saw students chipping in with auction items as diverse as teaching on subjects to old books or collection of movies.

The prospective buyers are, of course, from the student community itself.

The proceeds from the auction will be used to buy cycle rickshaws which will be given to poor rickshawpullers across the city, Daya, President of 'Vihaan' (FMS social wing) which organised the auction, said.

Part of the money will be used to make donations to NGOs involved in various social causes besides for preparing career counselling booklets and spreading awareness on career options for 9-12 class students in slums of Delhi and villages of Rajasthan and Haryana, he said.

"MBA is not just about earning money. But to contribute to the society as well," quips Daya.

The charity auction is expected to raise around Rs 1 lakh this year. It raised around Rs 90,000 last year.
