A group of ‘inebriated youths’ performing stunts on motorcycles allegedly beat up local residents after being asked to stop disturbing the peace in Rohini’s Sector-16 on Monday night, police said.

Police said the clash took place after residents caught hold of one of the bikers in an attempt to hand him over to police.

According to police, the incident was reported from around midnight.

“Residents caught one of the bikers who had hit a car while attempting stunts and called police in a bid to dissuade others from doing the same,” said a senior police officer.

Police said the residents alleged that the youths were in an inebriated condition.

“While the locals called police, the boy who had been caught also made a couple of calls to his friends and about a dozen of them soon arrived in a car,” the officer said.

Police said the group the reportedly began abusing and hitting the locals who had caught their friend.

According to police, five residents suffered injuries during the incident and managed to flee the spot.

“We have traced at least two persons involved in the incident but no arrests have been made as they are absconding,” the officer added.

The residents alleged inaction on the local police’s part.

Police said investigations into the matter were under way.
