Environmentalist and director of Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) Sunita Narain met with an accident early on Sunday when she was riding a bicycle.
According to the police, she was going to Lodhi Park from her house in Green Park when an unidentified vehicle hit her near AIIMS flyover.
The incident took place at 6.15am and she was rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre. “Both her wrists have been fractured and she has sustained some injuries on her nose. She is stable and showing signs of improvement,” said a doctor.
The trauma centre staff informed the police about the accident.
“A case of causing injuries due to rash and negligent driving has been registered and efforts are on to identify the vehicle,” said a senior police officer.
Police are yet to record Narain’s statement as she had undergone a nine-hour surgery. Her statement would be helpful to identify the vehicle, which hit her bicycle, police said.
