His black magic couldn’t save him from the police on Friday.
North District Police apprehended Naseem Khan (37) who allegedly posed as a tantrik (one who practices black magic) to dupe his unsuspecting victims.
A resident of Gulabi Bagh, Khan had allegedly hypnotised Vaijantimala Kumar, a UK resident, into paying him Rs 7 lakh in cash, buying him gifts and sponsoring a trip to different parts of the country.
Khan was allegedly helping her improve her marriage with his black magic.
Pursuing her husband who had fled to India after marital issues cropped up between the couple, Kumar was allegedly introduced to Khan — a tailor — by one Shashi who assured her that he would set her marriage right.
Kumar allegedly paid Khan Rs. 15,000 as fees for a “magical” mala (necklace) and some precious stones for the purpose of reuniting the estranged couple.
Then, Khan, a class
VIII dropout, allegedly hypnotised her and made her transfer close to Rs. 7 lakh to his account through an
international money transfer service.
She also reportedly present him with expensive gifts during her trips to the country.
Khan also allegedly took her to various dargahs across the country promising her that these visits — which were financed by her — would bring her good fortune.
However, when Kumar did not find any improvement in her situation, she asked Khan to return the money.
Police said Khan refused and threatened her with dire consequences if she attempted to lodge a complaint with the police.
Acting on a complaint lodged by Kumar on October 6, the police apprehended Khan and recovered precious stones worth Rs. 3 lakh purchased with Kumar’s money.
A number of malas, utensils, clothes and photographs of Kumar and her estranged husband were also recovered from him.
