The body of a 16-year-old student who was abducted on Tuesday afternoon was found on a vacant plot in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Wednesday. The police said Ribhu Chawla, a student of KR Mangalam World School in Vikaspuri, was strangled with a nylon rope.
Unidentified men had allegedly bundled Ribhu into a car 40 metres from his Vikaspuri home — and 200 metres from his school — on Tuesday.
The teenager, who was driving a scooter, had gone to meet a friend after school.
A classmate (name withheld), who was travelling behind him on another two-wheeler, told the police that two men stopped Ribhu and started talking to him. Soon, at around 3.15 pm, the men pushed Ribhu inside a car and drove away.
The police said Sanjay Chawla, Ribhu’s father, received the first ransom call around 3.45 pm on Tuesday.
Negotiations went on and Ribhu was in touch with his parents throughout the day.
The kidnappers used Ribhu’s mobile phone to make the ransom calls.
They reportedly demanded Rs 60 lakh from Chawla — who runs an information-technology firm in Patparganj, east Delhi.
A part of the ransom had already been paid, the police said.
