Two teenagers — a mass communication course student and his juvenile accomplice — were arrested for using their expensive sports bike to execute a snatching case on Friday, police said.

According to police, one of the accused, identified as Rahul (19), is the son of a gym instructor at a five-star hotel.

Police said the two had used the obsolete Yamaha RN5 motorcycle, priced close to Rs 1 lakh in the early nineties, to indulge in a series of snatching incidents, the latest being on January 4.

The bike model is known for its pick-up and speed

“Rahul is pursuing an undergraduate course in mass communication from an institute in Mehrauli,” said a senior police officer.

“Rahul and his friend started snatching things to buy expensive gifts for their girlfriends,” said H.G.S Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police, south Delhi.

The two were apprehended when they were making their way through a check post installed to intercept them.

“They were caught from Baba Gang Nath Marg on Tuesday, after a definite lead linking them to the snatching incident was found on January 12,” said Dhaliwal.

Police said they have found a mobile phone and the sports bike used in the crime from their possession.
