Five students of a technical institute in east Delhi were arrested on Friday for allegedly making a junior strip and dance as part of ragging and later severely assaulting him, police said.

"The incident took place at an Industrial Training Institute in Vivek Vihar area (in east Delhi) Wednesday when nearly 10 seniors caught the 17-year-old victim. They took him to a hall where they asked him to sing a song. But when he refused, he was forced to strip and dance naked," a senior police officer said.

"He again resisted. On this, they started beating him up. He fell down on the ground after which the seniors hit him on his private parts with an iron scale," he said.

"As he started bleeding, some of them took him to a nearby hospital and threatened him against speaking about the incident. He received three stitches and was on Thursday shifted to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital," the official added.

He later went to the police station along with his family and complained about the incident.

"The five accused - Kushmakar, Yogesh, Vinod, Raju, Satish - and a minor have been arrested. Four more are likely to be arrested on Saturday," the official said.

"The victim had joined the institute on Tuesday. He told us that he was ragged on that day as well. We have informed the institute authorities as well to take action against the accused students. The victim is a resident of Nand Nagari in east Delhi and his father is a driver," he added.
