The city heaved a sigh of relief on Saturday as a hot and humid day gave way to a pleasant evening.
Delhiites witnessed a squall followed by rainfall in most parts of the city that cooled the scorching city.
The maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded as 40.3 degree Celsius, a degree above normal.
“Saturday had the best and the worst of Delhi weather rolled in one. The afternoon was hot and uncomfortable but as soon as the rain started in the evening it became really pleasant. I hope the weather remains good for the coming few days as well,” said Pranav Chauhan, who works in an MNC in Connaught Place and went to India Gate with his family in the evening to enjoy the good weather.
Sunday is expected to be cooler than Saturday but will not see any rainfall, the Weatherman said.
The coming week will, however, see high temperatures and no rainfall.
The squall, however, also plunged many neighbourhoods in the city into darkness as three major power transmission lines tripped.
Major transmission lines of the Delhi Transco Limited tripped at Wazirabad, Mandola and Rajghat area affecting supply of power in many parts of north, east and south Delhi. “Work to restore power supply is on and the situation should be under control soon. The rain and the bad spot of weather were responsible for the problem in supply,” said an official of Delhi Transco Limited.
