Mukesh Sharma, senior MLA and parliamentary secretary to the chief minister, on Friday alleged that a nexus between the tent mafia and municipal councillors had made it difficult for ordinary residents to book parks and community halls for weddings and functions.
Addressing the Delhi Assembly, he said that most of the parks and community halls were booked in advance by the tent mafia who let them out to the residents of the area at double the official rates. “This way many residents have to face harassment,” Sharma said.
Sharma alleged that 'corruption in the municipal corporation' is delaying the distribution of old age and widow pension.
Urban Development Minister Arvinder Singh said he requested the Lieutenant Governor to put a stop to these “corrupt practices” of the councillors.
