Delhi High Court on Thursday allowed a suspected an accused in the Delhi serial blasts to appear for his MBA third semester exams from Tihar jail, where he is currently lodged.

Saquib Nisar is suspected to be an Indian Mujahideen operative. The exams begin on February 9.

“The gravity of the allegations cannot and should not bar the right to education of an accused and he should be allowed to pursue his studies”, Nisar’s counsel Vikas Padora said.

Justice Reva Khetrapal had on Wednesday asked the Delhi Police counsel to take instructions from the police commissioner and the Tihar jail officials on whether Nisar could be allowed to sit for the exams in jail.

On getting a positive response, the judge on Thursday directed the jail authorities and Sikkim Manipal University, where Nisar is pursuing his MBA, to make proper arrangement.

The court, however, refused to grant him interim bail.

Nisar has been in custody since September 20 after his arrest. He has been been accused of murder, attempt to murder and waging war against the nation amongst other offences.
