Union minister Shashi Tharoor was heckled by BJP women workers on friday today, who were protesting against the lack of safety for women, at a function to mark International Women's Day.

As Tharoor arrived at the Talkatora stadium in his car to attend the function organised by the Delhi Commission for Women, slogan shouting members of BJP's Mahila Morcha blocked his way and banged their hands on the vehicle.

Reacting to the incident, Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar said, "Why are they making noise? What wrong has he done? It is told that they have damaged his car. We did not like this behaviour."

Tharoor was later seen sitting in the audience.
