Shashi Tharoor has broken his silence about his upcoming marriage with Sunanda Pushkar, at last. At least with some of his very close friends, terming it a “major step in his personal life”.
In a letter to them, the former minister of state for External Affairs Tharoor wrote that his wedding with Sunanda Pushkar (on August 22) will be a “quiet family affair” at his 200-year-old ancestral home in Kerala.
While there will be two receptions — a “modest one” in Thiruvanamthapuram, then the “final” one in New Delhi. The short notice to the event, Tharoor said is “necessitated” by the Kerala’s political calendar.
“The prospect of being able to have a real home at last, with a woman I love and wish I had met many years ago, will only strengthen me in facing the challenges of public service that lie ahead,” wrote Tharoor.
Tharoor had so far remained silent about his wedding plans. In the letter mentioned confirming the wedding he said, “I am writing to convey to you with joy — while I realise you may perhaps have learned this already from our intrusive media, though I have not confirmed it publicly — that I will soon be marrying Sunanda Pushkar.”
Recalling that he had “lived through a great deal of unrest in the last couple of years,” and looking forward to a period of quiet.
