The showroom owners, who returned to work around 10am on Wednesday, after a weekly market holiday on Tuesday, were shocked to see a 2-feet wide hole on the floor of their showroom. “We were shocked to see the hole dug up on the floor which is around 8 inches in thickness and also cemented with iron rods. All the displayed valuables were missing. We estimate around Rs 57 lakh in gold and silver jewellry missing,” said Surinder Goel of Mani Jewellers.

During investigation, it was revealed that the drain runs parallel to market area on NH-58 and is covered with concrete slabs and is opened around 100 metres away. The thieves, believed to be around four-five in number, crawled into the drain and dug up a 6-7metres tunnel from the walls of the drain up to the floor of the showroom.

Dog squad and finger print experts have been pressed into service to look for possible clues in the case.
