The three municipal corporations are ready to launch a massive sealing drive against commercial properties that have not paid conversion charges.
The East Delhi Municipal Corporation has already sent notices to approximately 6,000 commercial establishments whose conversion charges are due. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has also issued notices to 3,000-odd shops.
According to sources, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation is also planning to start issuing notices by next week. While the deadline for paying the conversion charges was August 31, a number of shop owners still have not paid their dues.
Sources said at least five lakh property owners in Delhi have not paid conversion and regularisation charges.
A meeting was held on Tuesday in which the commissioner of North Delhi Corporation had directed the building department to start sealing in their area. A total of 1,500 notices are issued to shops in Karol Bagh zone while in Rohini two roads have been identified where sealing will start next week.
"We are giving them a final notice to pay their conversion and parking charges. Properties whose dues are not cleared will be sealed," added an official.
Officials said the East Delhi Corporation has taken details of the number of properties and their usage from the Delhi government's GeoSpatial Delhi Limited that had conducted a survey in these areas. In a survey carried out earlier in city zone, 10,000 defaulting properties not paid their dues. A fresh survey will be conducted to check all those who have paid.
"We will start the sealing drive once we get adequate police forces. We have already written to the Delhi Police," said the official.
Conversion charges are paid to the civic bodies for setting up commercial establishments in areas marked for residential purpose. The Master Plan of Delhi 2021 permits certain commercial, professional activities in residential properties of certain categories.
