It is not an ordinary room. A team of nine security personnel guard this room, situated in the Patiala House court complex, round the clock in three shifts. The room houses the entire court record of the 2G scam, which consists of more than 80,000 pages.
The CBI has requested these unprecedented security measures. The probe agency has got information that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's D company might destroy the entire court record to sabotage the 2G trial.
CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra told HT that given the sensitivity of trial and threat from underworld, we requested additional security measures for the 2G court record room before filing the first chargesheet in the case on April 2. HT had first reported on March 23 that the CBI had got information that D Company might target the 2G scam papers to scuttle trial.
A court staff, who didn't wish to be named told HT that for the first such security measures have been put in place for any trial in the Patiala House complex.
An iron gate has been installed on the record room and record keeper's room in addition to the wooden doors already existing. The local police put in place four fire extinguishers in place near the record room to deal with any fire break. The team guarding the record room in each shift comprises six personnel from the central reserve police force (CRPF) and three from Delhi police.
