The Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday sought modification of the Centre's guidelines for regulating tourism in tiger reserves for its effective implementation in the state.

Appearing for the state, former additional solicitor general Vivek Tankha contended that the guidelines should be site specific.

Reacting to it, a bench of Justice AK Patnaik and Justice Swatanter Kumar said that the state government may be allowed to modify the rules as per local conditions but should get the Centre's approval.
