A decision to deploy Tihar Jail warders at juvenile homes across Delhi has drawn severe criticism from child right activists, who termed it as violation of child rights.

The decision was taken in a meeting called by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Deepak Mishra after children at a juvenile home near Delhi Gate ransacked the place, protesting against the highhandedness of home's superintendent.

As per the new order, outer security in homes across the city will be provided by Delhi Police personnel, while warders from Tihar Jail will be in charge of the inner security.

Raj Mangal Prasad of Pratidhi, an NGO, said the decision may prove to be inconducive for juveniles, who need a homely atmosphere in the shelter. "Presence of police will have adverse impact on children," said Bharati Ali of HAQ for Child Rights.

The decision is likely to be implemented across various juvenile homes within a week.
