He studied medicine from Russia, comes from a family of doctors, and even has a clinic that his father helped him set up.
But the want of a hospital made him moonlight as a carjacker and a robber.
The Outer Delhi Police have arrested Dr Manoj Kumar Singh, 29, from Rohini for allegedly drugging and carjacking.
“Singh has a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Russian State Medical Academy. His wife is a pharmacist and they have a daughter,” said Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer Delhi).
Sharma said that he wanted money to build a big hospital and started committing crime with the help of compounder Deepak Bhardwaj, who worked at the hospital where Singh is the administrator.
“He could not clear the test which is mandatory for a doctor who wants to practise in India. He thought he could earn more money if he had his own hospital,” Sharma said.
His arrest came following investigations into a complaint by Satish Kumar on February 3 about four persons robbing him of his car in Begampur.
“The gang intercepted Kumar and took him to Alipur at gunpoint, drugged him and his friend, and fleed with Rs 10,000 in cash, their phones and car,” she added.
On Friday, the police received a tip that a stolen car would pass through Begumpur.
“The driver turned out to be Singh. He was arrested, as he could not provide proper documents,” she added. Singh allegedly told the police that he along with his associates Deepak Bhardwaj, Rajesh and Babloo were involved in the incident.
He also told police that they had also stolen a tempo loaded with plastic using the robbed car.
Singh did his MD (Physician) from the Russian State Medical Academy. Recently, he had appeared in FMGE, an examination being conducted by National Board of Examination, but did not clear it and was preparing this year again to crack the paper.
