A dilshad Garden couple heaved a sigh of relief on Saturday when they were reunited with their two-year-old daughter 36 hours after she had gone missing.
Yashaswi Singh, alias Gungun, was found by a priest around 10am inside the Satsang Hall of Jhandewalan Temple, around 5 km away from India Gate, where she had gone missing during a family outing on Thursday.
The priest handed over Gungun to a Sonia, a female constable, who brought her to Tilak Marg police station.
On Thursday evening Gungun had gone to India Gate with her father, Vijay Singh, mother, Shashi and nine-year-old brother Yuvraj.
Shashi realised her daughter was missing when they sat down for some snacks.
The family searched for her till 10pm and then approached the police and reported the matter to the Tilak Marg police station. The case was changed to that of kidnapping after 24 hours, following standard procedure.
Her father, who owns a namkeen manufacturing unit, announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh. But now the northeast Delhi couple are on top of the world.
“I cannot describe the feeling.... The whole family went through the toughest 36 hours of their lives,” said Shashi.
The police have made sketches of three women on the basis of an eyewitness account. Joint commissioner Dharmender Kumar said: “The eyewitness told us he saw three women, one of them obese, picking up the child.”
The police said Gungun was found wearing a different set of clothes. Kumar said the women’s intentions were not clear as they left Gungun in a temple after the media reported on her disappearance.
