A day after 56-year-old Trilok Singh Tokas was gunned down by three assailants in south Delhi’s Munirka Village, the police have launched a massive tenant verification drive besides questioning six persons on Saturday.

“We have launched a massive tenant verification drive in the area apart from questioning six persons based on the testimony of witnesses,” Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south) said, adding that at least 8,000 tenants residing in the area have been verified so far.

Trilok Singh Tokas, an ex-CRPF officer before he became a successful maintenance contractor, was gunned down at the Baba Gangnath Sports Complex, after three assailants intercepted him at 12.05 am on Friday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the three was slapped by Tokas after he discovered them loitering in the said complex, located barely half-a-kilometre from the Vasant Vihar police station, around 11.30 pm on Thursday night.

On Friday, the Tokas family, have expressed its apprehensions that the incident could be a result of professional rivalry and not due to sudden provocation. The victim’s son Dinesh acquired at least seven maintenance contracts at DDA sports installations across the city a day prior to his father’s brutal murder.

“So far, investigations point to the fact that the incident was triggered by sudden provocation. However, we are aware of the family’s apprehensions and are probing all angles, including that of professional rivalry as a possibility,” Sharma added.
