The high-voltage drama involving the arrest of former Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar from his office in northwest Delhi’s Shakurpur on Tuesday morning was a well-crafted plot executed with perfection by a team of over 20 Delhi Police personnel.
The 49-year old MLA was forced to quit as the Delhi law minister on Tuesday after he was arrested and charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code relating to cheating and criminal conspiracy.
Investigators claim that after a month-long investigation they found Tomar not only submitted fake science graduation degree and law mark sheets to register with the Bar Council of Delhi in 2011 but also forged a migration certificate.
Having no hint about the police’s secret operation, a clueless Tomar got to know about his arrest only after cops smartly separated him from his supporters and brought him to the anti-auto theft squad (AATS) office in south Delhi’s Vasant Vihar and started grilling him.
Sources said, Tomar started losing confidence and began shivering at the AATS office when he found himself surrounded with investigators in the middle of a room having multiple video cameras. Being a diabetic, Tomar requested his interrogators to take him to the bathroom to relieve himself, sources in south Delhi police said.
It all started around 6 in the morning when the entire team, most of them in plain clothes, arrived at the Vasant Vihar police station to attend a meeting summoned by senior south Delhi police officers without any prior notice.
Except a couple of inspectors, the team members were clueless about the objective of the meeting. Some of them were reportedly astonished when their seniors briefed them about the secret operation to arrest Tomar against whom a case of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy was registered at the Hauz Khas police only around eight hours ago.
“Tomar was tricked into assisting the police officers in collecting his academic certificates which according to Delhi Bar Council’s complaint were fake and forced. The policemen smartly made Tomar sit in his own official Innova car with his driver and assistant already present inside,” said a police officer.
