There is a gang of armed criminals on the loose in the city. They ride bikes, rob and kill people in full public view and have the police in a complete twirl. A man called Om Prakash leads them, and he is better known as Bunty.
Police commissioner YS Dadwal told a crowded news conference on Thursday his force has identified the gang, its members and their leader. “We have good leads on them and we will catch them,” he said.
For the moment, however, Bunty is calling the shots. He and his gang are suspected of having killed at least four people, and injured several people, and robbed many more. Most of these incidents happened in south Delhi, starting last Friday.
They are now believed to be shifting base to east Delhi to escape police heat in the south. A man was robbed of his motorcycle at gunpoint in Mayur Vihar early Wednesday. Dadwal said he could be victim of the same gang. “It could be them but the picture would be clear once we arrest the gang members,” Dadwal said, adding, the overall crime situation in the city has been better than last year.
More than 83 per cent of heinous crimes this year have been worked out. “The overall graph of heinous crimes and use of firearms have declined,” the commissioner said.
And then comes Bunty, who has a history of 25 major crime involvements. He has been arrested several times before. But at the moment he is free and dangerous.
