In a shocking incident, two sisters tried ending their lives because they were being allegedly tortured by their father ever since their mother had passed away six years ago.

The incident took place in west Delhi’s Madipur area, when the sisters, identified as Deepika, 20 and Priyanka, 16, tried committing suicide by taking sleeping pills on Friday afternoon.

The girls were admitted to St Stephen’s hospital after their grandmother found them unconscious in their room.

The girls, after they regained consciousness on Monday, alleged that their father would beat them up almost everyday. After their mother’s death, their father had begun an affair with a woman and wanted his daughters to leave the house so that he could marry her.

“The girls refused to go back to their father’s home as they were too scared. They were sent to their aunt’s home,” said a senior police officer.

Their father, Darshan Kumar, who owns an electric shop in the area, said he never thrashed his daughters. The girls were making false allegations as he always asked them to focus on studies, he claimed.
