Train crushes DU student in south Delhi

A second-year Delhi University (DU) student was crushed by a train near the Safdarjung Railway station in south Delhi on Wednesday afternoon. The victim, who was on her way for her examinations, was crushed to death in front of her younger brother.
The incident was reported around 1.30 pm. The victim, S Simla, was a resident of Laxmi Bai Nagar. Her father is employed with the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). She was in the second year of her graduation and was doing her BA through correspondence from Delhi University.
The police said that the victim was on her way to the Safdarjung Bus Terminal to board a bus for her examination centre at Moti Lal Nehru College near Dhaula Kuan.
The victim’s younger brother Kuppuswami (16), who was accompanying her, was few steps behind when the train hit his sister.
“Kuppuswami told us that she was getting late for her examinations and did not see the train coming from the other side. She went ahead on the railway tracks and was hit by the train,” said a senior police officer.
The police said that the brother rushed her to AIIMS Trauma Centre in an autorickshaw. In the meantime, he called his father. Doctors declared her brought dead at the hospital.
