She couldn't carry the burden of her family's decision any longer. So, she ran away with her alleged childhood lover and jumped in front of a speeding train on Sunday evening.

Police said childhood sweethearts Vineet Kumar (25) and Pinki (22) decided to end their lives after the latter decided that she could no longer live with her husband of two years.

The duo jumped in front of a Rajdhani train at the Anand Vihar railway station around 5:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said the train was approaching the platform from the New Delhi Railway Station when the couple jumped in front of it.

“The two were from the same village in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and had known each other since childhood,” said a senior police officer, who didn’t give his name as he isn’t authorised to speak to media.

Police said Pinki had allegedly been missing from her house for the past few days.

"She had run away with Vineet from her husband's home on April 1 and they decided to take this drastic step fearing a backlash from the elders of their families," the officer said.

According to police, Pinki had reportedly been forcibly married to her husband after her family disapproved of Vineet due to the age difference between the two as well as his economic condition.

"The girl's family was opposed to the match since the beginning. So, the couple ran away and committed suicide," the officer added.
