Soon after dumping former rail minister Dinesh Trivedi for hiking fares, calling rape incidents a plot against them and getting JU professor arrested for spoof on their party leader, the Trinamool Congress is now asking its members to boycott CPM members.
Conveying the ruling party's message at a programme in Habra in North 24-Parganas, food supplies minister Jyotipriya Mullick said: "Don't mingle with the CPM. Don't even talk to them if you meet them at a local chai (tea) shop. We have vowed to boycott the CPM socially. Our workers must make sure that nobody in their family enters into any marital relationship with any CPM leader or supporter."
In the meanwhile, party leader and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday defended her decision to arrest a university professor for circulating a spoof on her on the net.
Her finance minister, Amit Mitra, read out Banerjee’s speech at the chief ministers' conference in New Delhi, flagging cybercrime as a serious threat that “may greatly disturb the internal security of the country… It is increasing all over the country.”
Banerjee’s speech also gave details on how the state was tackling cybercrime. “A cyber-police station has been created in Kolkata and a cyber-laboratory has also been set up.
Stung by criticism of her government's choice of newspapers for state and state-aided libraries and a professor's arrest over circulation of a cartoon showing her in poor light, she said on Monday the media was painting a negative picture of her government's performance and claimed her government scored "a hundred out of hundred" as far as performance was concerned.
"You do not see positively. You see negatively. If you see positively, the performance of the government is 100 out of 100," Mamata said.
