Trouble brewing at MCD over fixed salary

The political wing of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is miffed with the MCD commissioner, who, they believe, is an obstacle towards getting fixed salary for each of its 272 councillors. The civic agency had forwarded a recommendation (regarding the same) for the Central government’s consideration.

According to officials, the Home Ministry asked Delhi government’s urban development (UD) department to look into the matter, which then sent a letter to the MCD commissioner, asking him to forward all proposals — in respect of salary and perks — to them. While this letter was sent in October 2010, the MCD commissioner did not reply to it.

Another letter was sent by Vinod Kumar Jhaku, deputy secretary, UD department on June 30. However, the commissioner still did not send a reply. “We are amazed at the commissioner’s attitude. He didn’t inform anyone about the letter. We are planning to raise the matter in the Standing Committee,” said Yogender Chandolia, chairman, MCD Standing Committee. htc
