The CBI, which is probing alleged irregularities in the award of the Timing, Scoring & Results (TSR) system contract, on Thursday took in its custody two key accused in the case who were linked to the payment of a suspected kickback of Rs 23 crore.

The arrested duo, AK Madan and PD Arya who are partners of a Faridabad-based firm Gem International, were the alleged recipient, along with an absconding accused belonging to a Hyderabad-based construction firm, of the bribe paid in lieu of the favour shown to the Swiss firm by the accused OC officials.

The accused OC officials had allegedly eliminated another bidder, Spanish firm MSL Software, whose offer was only around Rs 62 crore as per the agency's case chargesheet submitted in May that named Madan and Arya along with six OC officials.

"The CBI will grill Madan and Arya for five days during their custody period, we want to find if they had shared the suspected kickback with the accused OC officials," said a CBI source.

"The two accused, along with the Hyderabad firm's AK Reddy, who is still wanted in the case, are suspected to have raised inflated and bogus invoices," said the source.
