Two 14-year-old girls allegedly committed suicide in different parts of the capital on Saturday with the police clueless about what drove them over the edge.
The first incident was reported from outer Delhi’s Mongolpuri area around 3 pm in the afternoon.
“The victim, a class nine student at a local government school, had just come home from her classes. Returning home, she locked herself in her room and was found hanging from the ceiling fan by her mother half-an-hour later,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (outer).
DCP Sharma said the victim did not leave behind a suicide note.
“Her post mortem has been conducted and the body has been handed over to the family. We are investigating the matter,” DCP Sharma said.
In a similar case, another 14-year-old girl committed suicide after her aunt scolded her for talking over phone instead of concentrating on her studies in New Delhi’s Mandir Marg area.
“The incident was reported at 6 pm on Saturday and the victim has been identified as Amme. She used to stay with her aunt who works as a nurse at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital,” said a senior police officer.
According to police, Amme was talking to someone on the phone when her aunt scolded her and asked her to concentrate on her studies.
“She was upset with the scolding and seems to have hung herself in retaliation. No suicide note was found on her person,” the officer added.
