The Delhi Police arrested two persons for allegedly murdering an UP police constable when he tried to nab them during a robbery attempt. The two, identified as Amir and Khem Chand, were caught near IGNOU Campus in south Delhi during a special drive on Diwali.

“We have recovered an Italy-made semi-automatic pistol, a stolen motorcycle and Rs 5,000 in cash from them,” Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said.

“We arrested them after they failed to produce any papers for the vehicle. When confronted, they tried to flee but fell down on the road instead. They were overpowered by the police. On verification, the motorcycle was found to be stolen,” Sharma added.

During interrogation the duo told police that they, along with their accomplices, had murdered a constable of UP police in Sahibabad and had taken R40,000, a mobile phone and a motorcycle from him.

“They said they were trying to steal a vehicle at Shiv Chowk near Ganesh Puri in UP, when constable Jitender intervened and tried to nab them. They stabbed him to death,” Sharma said.

They disclosed the names of their associates as Nadeem and Monu. Further investigation is on to nab the absconding accused.

Police said UP police had been informed and the two would be handed over to them. htc
