Two drivers associated with the Delhi Police were allegedly arrested for attempting to rape a woman and violently attacking her friend at the Buddha Jayanti Park in New Delhi on Saturday, police said.

According to police, the incident occurred around 6:30 pm on Saturday evening when the men, identified as Omprakash and Mandeep visited the park in the police vehicle.

Police said the men apparently hid in a bush initially. “As soon as they got noticed, they pounced on the girl and started misbehaving with her. When her male companion tried to intervene, they physically assaulted him,” said the officer.

“The men aren’t Delhi Police recruits and have been associated with the Delhi Police for a limited period of time,” said Shankar Dash, DCP, New Delhi.
