Two fire incidents, including one at North Block, were reported in the city in the past 24 hours. Fortunately, no casualty was reported from either of the incidents, police said.
In the first incident, a minor fire broke out in North Block on Saturday afternoon. No major damage to the property was reported.
The blaze was reported at 3.36pm and nine fire tenders were pressed into service, a senior fire officer said.
"The fire broke out on ground floor near Gate No-7 of North Block. The cause of the fire is being attributed to a spark in one of the split air-conditioners on the floor. The fire was doused by 4.15 pm," said the fire officer.
In another incident, a major fire broke out in the ground floor of a plastic factory in Bhorgarh Industrial area in outer Delhi's Narela on Friday night around 10pm. Fire officials attributed the reason to a short circuit.
Since the fire tenders reached very late at the fire spot, the blaze gutted the entire factory and could not be controlled till early morning. Fire officials blamed heavy traffic jam on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway for their late action.
They claimed that the fire engines were stuck in a traffic jam for hours and by the time they began their operations, the blaze had already engulfed the factory's building.
More than 30 fire tenders were used to douse the flames. An estimated loss of several lakhs of rupees has been estimated.
