In a grim reminder of the Mehrauli abduction case, where a girl was abducted by four men in a SUV but later rescued by the police in July, two boys tried to abduct a girl in Rohini area of outer Delhi on Wednesday night.
The girl claimed that the boys, who were in a Skoda car, first passed lewd comments at her and later tried to drag her inside the car.
“We were walking towards our home after some shopping when at the Deepali chowk traffic signal, a Skoda car slowed down and the boys passed lewd comments. When we shouted back, one of them tried to drag me inside. The traffic signal turned red at that time and they couldn’t escape,” the victim told media persons. The police, however, denied the charges of abduction and said it was a case of molestation and road rage.
“The victim was with her brother and another girl. And, there was a girl inside the Skoda car too. It was not a case of abduction and we have booked the boys in a molestation case. They have been arrested,” said BS Jaiswal, DCP (outer).
The accused have been identified as Shekhar and Arun.
“They are students of mass communication and were going to Pitampura to attend a Ramlila celebration. At the traffic light, they had some altercation with the two girls and a boy,” a senior police officer said.
Shekhar is a resident of Rohini while Arun, a native of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, was living with him. The incident took place at 8:30pm. The victim raised an alarm and the passerbys gathered at the spot. Seeing locals approaching towards them, the youth tried to escape but couldn’t flee.
A case of hurt, assault and wrongful restraint was registered against them at the Rohini south police station. “Our team reached to the spot immediately. Locals also damaged their Skoda car,” added Jaiswal, who was himself reached to spot.
