A woman trying to commit suicide miraculously escaped unhurt even after two metro train coaches passed over her after she jumped on the metro tracks.
The incident took place at the Chandni Chowk metro station.
According to metro officials, the incident happened around 10:20 a.m. causing a 30 minutes delay in the metro rail services. The Metro rail services in the Central Secretariat -Vishwa Vidyalaya lane was disrupted.
Ram Janaki (43), who was reportedly suffering from depression, escaped unhurt as the driver applied emergency breaks to stop the train immediately. She had jumped in front of the train when it was approaching at the platform. “Janaki is a resident of Katra Leshwan, Chandni Chowk. She escaped unhurt and according to her husband is believed to be possibly suffering from depression ,” said a senior police officer.
After Janaki jumped, two metro train bogeys passed over her. She was then pulled out from the tracks unhurt. According to metro officials the delay was caused more so as the rear exit door of the metro train was opened. At 10:46 am the door was closed and the services immediately started.
Officer goers panicked when the incident happened. “I reached around half an hour late to my office in Connaught Place. The train first stopped for 30 minutes at Chandni Chowk and then around 10 minutes at New Delhi metro station. We all panicked inside the coaches. The coaches were open and we did not know anything about what was happening inside the stations. Inside the train only announcement was being made that the train has stopped for a while and we’ll resume normalcy very soon,” said Shweta Singla, a banker who was stuck at Chandni Chowk station.
