Underworld don Babloo Srivastava was on Friday granted a day-long custody parole by a Delhi court for attending a pre-marriage ceremony of his nephew at Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh on February 21.
Additional Sessions Judge Pratibha Rani allowed a plea of the extradited gangster after his counsel J P Bansal submitted that Srivastava was willing to bear all expenses for it.
Bansal, in an application, sought the custody parole of Srivastava saying that the accused wanted to attend the 'Tilak' ceremony to be held at Government Inter College in Barabanki district on February 21.
Babloo, who was extradited from Singapore in 1995, along with his three associates Fazlu, Pradeep Khurana and Jitender Singh, is facing trial for allegedly making threatening calls to Delhi-based Sheetal Prasad Singh to extort Rs 25 lakh from him between March 2003 to April 2003.
According to the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, the accused allegedly put Singh, who was into the business of making high security registration plates since 2001, in fear of death and forced him to meet Babloo and another businessman Nitin Shah.
The Special Cell registered a case of extortion and criminal conspiracy against Babloo, Fazlu and his two alleged associates Khurana and Singh in April 15 2003.
