To crack down on property tax defaulters in the city, the MCD has started the process of providing unique property identification codes (UPIC) to property owners.
So far, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has identified a total of 12 lakh properties and is hoping to add another three lakh in the coming three months.
Presenting the MCD budget at a special meeting of the civic body, Leader of the House Subhash Arya said, “A survey was carried out, in which we have identified 12 lakh property owners in the city and assigned UPICs to them. We have also listed them on our website so that our department can easily verify whether owners are paying property tax or not.”
He added, “We hope to earn huge revenue through this.” “The numbers could go up to 15 lakh in three months,” Arya added. The civic agency rejected the five per cent across-the-board increase in property tax. The MCD has, however, approved a 17-28 % hike in toll tax in various categories.
