A 45-year-old man and one of his relatives have been arrested for allegedly beating a man to death for misbehaving at his daughter's wedding in west Delhi, police said on Friday.
A tag on the victim's shirt helped the police link the incident to the incensed father.
"The victim, identified as Mohan Lal, 35 was from the groom's side and was thrashed on the night of February 28 at Uma Shankar's daughter's wedding at Moti Nagar. His relative has been identified as Deepu Prasad," said V Renganathan, deputy commissioner of police (west).
According to police, Lal was found dead on March 1 and could not be identified initially.
"Lal had gone for the said wedding with his friend and had consumed alcohol. While at the function, Lal started behaving in an unruly manner and disturbed other guests. Shankar noticed Lal's misbehaviour when the latter was arguing with the DJ," said a senior police officer.
Police said while questioning, Shankar claimed that he had even tried to talk it out with Lal, but to no avail.
"Even his relatives tried to ensure that Lal minds his manners but to no avail. When Lal refused to leave the function despite Shankar's insistence, he and Prasad took him aside and assaulted him," the officer said.
According to police, doctors said severe head injuries led to Lal's death.
"Since Lal's family was not aware of his whereabouts, a team of 40 officers was constituted besides getting 100 copies of the victim's photograph printed to identify him. Finally, it was the tag on his shirt that helped us identify him," the DCP added.
