With the Lok Sabha elections not far away, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday said all the unfulfilled promises have to be met in the last year of the Congress-led coalition in office.

"It is the last year of the UPA. Next year is going to be decisive. The unfulfilled promises in the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP) have to be met," Gandhi said at a function to mark the fourth year of the UPA in power.

With the Assembly elections in a number of states and the Lok Sabha elections next year weighing heavily on her mind, the Congress President said it was important to make the people aware of the achievements of the Government in various fields.

The function at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence was attended by leaders of coalition partners and a number of ministers and MPs.

Referring to the political and economic challenges facing the country, the UPA Chairperson said it was time to evaluate them.

"We have to be aware of these future challenges and take on these jointly irrespective of party affiliations," she said.

Commending the government's performance over the last four years, Gandhi said the "effect of our progress" has been seen among the people.

The mandate given by the people was for secularism and development, she said. "We have completed a lot of promises made to the country. There is no exaggeration in the report".
