The body of a man, whose sister-in-law and three children were found dead on June 1 at west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, was found on the railway tracks in Saharanpur, UP on Saturday.

According to the police, Amit Kumar, an excise officer and the deceased’s husband, had suspected his brother Deepak’s role in the murder and the police had summoned him to join the investigation.

Police said that Deepak was not present during the cremation and had gone missing soon after the incident. Soon, the police summoned him to join the investigation but before he could reach Delhi, his body was found on the railway track in Saharanpur.

Amit had reportedly told the police that Deepak and his wife did not get along. He had also stated that he suspected him to be behind the murder. The suspicion grew stronger after Deepak went missing from his home in Saharanpur after the murder came to light and did not come for the cremation ceremony.

“It is still unclear if Deepak came to Delhi on the day of the murder or not. His family told us that he left home early on June 1 and did not return. His body was on Saturday found on the railway tracks,” police said.

The UP police have sent the body for a postmortem examination to ascertain the exact time and cause of death.

“It is unclear if he was murdered or he committed suicide. The postmortem report would help us ascertain the exact cause of death. We are now trying to draw a connection between the two incidents. Deepak’s relatives will also be questioned about his whereabouts since the incident. The investigation in the matter is on and we hope to crack the case soon. We have sought assistance from the UP police,” a senior police officer said.
