Former PM A.B. Vajpayee described Nanaji Deshmukh as a fighter who strengthened the movement of Jai Prakash Narayan against the Emergency of 1975-77 and an “expert in handling challenges”.

By voluntarily dissociating himself from politics, he became a role model and created self-sufficient model towns like Gonda and Chitrakoot, he said.

Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani cancelled Holi celebrations at his home.

Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitely said, “Even through his social work he transformed the lives of thousands. I pay my homage to this great man and pray for the peace of his soul.”

BJP chief Nitin Gadkari said, “To those who consider not only politics but also the public life in general as an instrument of social change, Nanaji’s memories will continue to guide for centuries.”
