Joining the debate over Valentine’s Day, Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev today said the occasion was not being celebrated in the actual spirit associated with it and suggested that it should be celebrated as ‘Marriage Day´.

“St. Valentine (in whose name the day is celebrated) was hanged because he professed the institution of marriage against the wishes of the King. But the younger generation (of today) has given a different connotation to the day,” he said.

They are indulging in “acts” in public which no parent would approve of, Ramdev said while speaking at a function ‘Swabhiman Diwas´ organised by All India Anti-Terrorist Front to spread the message of democracy.

“The day should rather be celebrated as marriage day that the saint propagated,” he said.

At the same time, Ramdev condemned the Mangalore pub incident, saying “people who resorted to vandalism there were as uncultured like those who indulge in uncultured activities in the streets during Valentine Day.”

“I condemn the assault on women in the pub,” he said.

Ramdev is leading a front christened ‘Bharat Swabhiman´ for spreading the message of true democratic values across the country and create a political force that cleanses the present political system of all ills.
