Deputy Chairperson K. Rahman Khan adjourned the Rajya Sabha for five minutes after the Opposition pointed out that there was no minister in the House.

“I can’t run the House without a minister,” Khan said.

This happened even as Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi was in the House.

Expressing his regret when the House reassembled, Ravi said, “Sir, I was sitting in the House. For two minutes I went to Arun Shourie to discuss some important matter.” He said he couldn’t figure out what was happening because of the pandemonium.

Bundelkhand row
New Delhi:

The Rajya Sabha had to be adjourned briefly on Thursday when some Opposition members clashed with a ruling party MP over the Bundelkhand region.

Congress member Satyavrat Chaturvedi said while the region was spread in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, both state governments had neglected it.

The remark upset members of BJP and SP. MPs trooped into the well of the House, forcing a 10-minute adjournment.
