People from across the country will participate with their vintage cars, motorbikes and scooters in the rally. A 1940 Buick Special car and a 1947 Bentley showcased on Wednesday — which have never been out for a spin on Delhi roads — will delight the city's car lovers for the first time this Sunday.

The 1947 Bentley, which has come from Mumbai, was earlier owned by the Maharaja of Mysore, whereas the 1940 Buick Special was a prized possession of the Maharaja of Bundi.

"The 21 Gun Salute Vintage Rally is back on a much larger canvas with around 175 vehicles. Of these, two cars are new on Delhi roads. Another such vintage beauty this year is a 1912 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost — currently owned by Nawab Tariq Ibrahim. It will come from Kanpur," said Madan Mohan, managing director of the 21 Gun

Salute, while showcasing cars at The Fraternity Club, Freemasons Hall.

Organised in association with the Heritage Motoring Club of India, the rally has generated such enthusiasm and participation from across the country that the organisers are considering to make it an international event from the next year.

Mohan said in 2013, around 25 vintage cars from the UK will participate in the rally. "We have had talks with vintage motor clubs in the country and they have shown enthusiasm to participate in the rally to be held in Delhi," he said.
